Education Secretary Visits Detroit Schools

Pre-kindergartners at a Detroit school have had a visit from President Obama's education secretary and Gov. Rick Snyder, who read to them from the book "The Rainbow Fish."
Secretary Arne Duncan and Snyder also talked with fifth graders during Monday's stop at Thirkell Elementary School. The Detroit News says Duncan told students he knows "the schools are struggling" and it's his job "to make sure it's better."
Thurkell is part of the Detroit Public Schools and has 490 students from preschool through eighth grade.
Later Monday, Duncan and Snyder visited Detroit's Brenda Scott Elementary/Middle School. The state Education Achievement Authority runs Scott and other schools classified as failing.
