UPDATE: Eastbound I-496 Re-opens Following Fiery Fatal Crash

LANSING - I-496 in Lansing has re-opened following a Tuesday morning 6-car accident. Lansing Police now report that a 24-year-old Lansing man was killed when the car he was in caught fire. Three other drivers were injured in the multi-car crash. The identity of the man who died has not been released, while family is notified. The accident happened shortly before 8 o'clock in the eastbound lanes of I-496 under the Clemens Avenue bridge. Investigators are still determining how the it began. The eastbound lanes of I-496 were closed until approximately 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

LANSING - One person has been killed and two others injured in an accident along I-496 Tuesday morning. I-496 eastbound is completely closed from US-127 to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. I-496 westbound has one lane closed with traffic moving slowly.

6 cars are involved in the accident that happened around 8 o'clock on the highway under the Clemens Avenue bridge. One car is completely burned. There is no word yet on the identity of the person who was killed.
Clearing this accident could take hours. Drivers should avoid I-496 this morning.
