NEW HAVEN, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a 30-year-old southeastern Michigan man in the hit-and-run death of a 25-year-old woman riding a bike.
Macomb County sheriff's officials say Bruce Christy of St. Clair County's Columbus Township was charged Saturday with failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. He's jailed in Macomb County on a $50,000 bond and faces a Tuesday arraignment.
Officials say Melanie James was struck by a car and killed Thursday night while riding her bike in New Haven. Christy is accused of getting out of his vehicle, looking around and then running away.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says he was found about a mile away, hiding under a blanket in the back of a recreational vehicle.
It wasn't immediately clear if Christy has an attorney.
