Detroit Bikes Rolling Out 2nd Bicycle Model

DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Bikes will turn out a second bicycle model one year after the company introduced its first.
The Detroit Free Press reports the company will unveil the B-Type model Thursday. It's a step-through bike with a diagonal bar rather, and it only comes in white.
Detroit Bikes owner Zak Pashak says he wants to revive bicycle making in the U.S. by mass producing bikes that retail for under $700. The 34-year-old runs a 50,000-square-foot factory on the city's west side. He says the company has sold about 1,000 bikes and he hopes to sell 5,000 by the end of the year.
The National Bicycle Dealers Association says 99 percent of bicycles sold in the U.S. came from China and Taiwan last year. That's 16.2 million bikes.
