A group of Detroit-area corporate leaders has launched an advertising campaign promoting a bright future for Detroit despite its bankruptcy filing.
Detroit Free Press columnist Tom Walsh reports the campaign began Sunday with full-page ads in The New York Times, The Washington Post and other publications. Ads are scheduled to run Tuesday and over the next week in other publications.
Dan Loepp, CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, says the ads cost about $600,000. He says there has been "a lot of pent-up frustration" over media coverage following Detroit's municipal bankruptcy filing this summer. He says leaders "felt a need to say something" positive.
In all, 28 corporate leaders are part of the effort.
