Vote 'Yes' and vote 'No' signs are up around Delhi Township. Two committees on opposing ends are both rallying aggressively for residents to vote on their side on May 8th regarding whether or not the township should invest in sludge dryers.

"This is an elective project that is not necessary to Delhi residents," said Delhi Township resident and head of the vote 'No' campaign, Pastor Jeff Hall.

Members of the vote 'Yes' committee would beg to differ, arguing that the township's proposed sludge-drying process will save money in the long run and take out pharmaceuticals in liquid sludge.

"Which end up on farmers' fields and we're eating them, we're drinking them and we're swimming in them," said Kim Berry-Smokoski, Delhi Township resident and member on the vote 'Yes' committee.

Both sides stand by their argument spending thousands of dollars to convince voters. Campaign finance documents show Granger III and Associates is the single contributor to the vote 'Yes' campaign and donated $5000. Those against the project picked up on that and are demanding answers.

"One corporation has entirely paid for the entire 'Yes' campaign. What's in it for Granger? That's the question we should be asking," said Pastor Hall.

Delhi Township Manager John Elsinga says he discussed the sludge drying idea with the company but denies it has any financial connection to the project.

"Renewable energy, that's what they do. I basically say we're partners in cleaning up the environment, so that just makes sense to me," Elsinga said.

On the flipside, the same documents show the vote 'No' campaign has received about $2000 total from a handfull of donors. Pastor Hall put in $400 and says he simply did it as a concerned resident.

"I don't get any benefit from the sludge. It is simply a common sense issue to me."

Steering clear of campaign finances, both sides are on level ground with about a week left to convince voters.
