The superintendent of East Jackson schools has announced that the varsity football season will be canceled this year.
The season was canceled last week because not enough players were eligible for the team. An outcry from some members of the community following the announcement, led to protests of the decision, and student-led efforts to rally the team.
As of last week, only nine players had signed up, and the superintendent said he would like to have at least 18 to have a season.
Nicole Chadwick was live on the scene for the superintendent's announcement, and will have complete coverage tonight on WILX News 10.
