Hundreds of riders took off from the MSU Pavilion Wednesday morning, on the first day of DALMAC-- the Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinaw ride.
Others will start Thursday, with about 1,600 cyclists total, riding four different routes that end either in Mackinaw City or Sault Ste. Marie. The ride is in its 44th year and is staffed entirely by volunteers.
"The money that we get goes back into the communities for any kind of bike ride," said Patricia Trudgen, DALMAC Director. "Anything to do with promoting bicycles.
The rides add to the festival-like atmosphere at the Mighty Mac-- where they'll arrive on Sunday. Then on Monday, 40,000 people will walk across the bridge for the annual Labor Day "Mackinac Bridge Walk." Governor Snyder will again lead the five-mile march.
