Community Needs Help With Soldier Care Packages

By  |

The Jonesville community is once again putting together hundreds of care packages for our troops this year.

Last year, 500 Christmas care packages were send to active troops around the country. Another 400 care packages were taken to veterans staying in hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities in Ann Arbor and Battle Creek.

To date, more than 6,000 care packages have been sent thanks to this community's efforts to show thanks for what our troops have sacrificed.

This year, the Jonesville community is adopting the USS William P. Lawrence DDG 110. The ship's commander, CDR Jana (Null) Vavasseur, is a native of Jonesville.

If you have a family member or loved one who is, or has, served in any branch of the military, whether overseas or in the States, drop off a printed mailing address at Shear Magic so they can send an individual care package as a sign of gratitude.

Some of the items needed for the care packages include: puzzle books, reading books, nail clippers, razors, tissue packs, chapstick, toothbrush, toothpaste and snacks like granola bars, sunflower seeds, gum, candy and snack packs.

Packing Day is set for Sunday, December 2nd at 2pm at the Jonesville Middle School located on U.S. 12.

You can also make a tax-deductible contribution. Make the check payable to "Hillsdale County Veterans" and send or drop off to:

Shear Magic
242 E. Chicago
Jonesville, MI 49250

Shear Magic is located in downtown Jonesville and is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Your contribution will be used for items not collected and to help cover shipping costs.

All items, addresses for individual care packages and donations must be received by Saturday, November 24.
