Community Mental Health Adults get to Volunteer, Take "Aktion"

The Hummingbirds will be officially inducted on Thursday, August 21 at 1 p.m. on the Garden Patio of Transitions South in Holt.

Holt, MI - The "Holt Hummingbirds" are on a mission to help Mid-Michigan.

This group of disabled adults at Community Mental Health's Transitions South in Holt will soon be the newest "Aktion Club" chapter.

"Aktion Clubs" are Kiwanis International programs for adults with disabilities, giving them the opportunity to give.

"It's been really pretty joyful even for me after working with these guys for so long to see them get really excited," says Lisa Mack of Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham.

The group started community service in May, focusing on a new project every month. The Hummingbirds have spent most of their time fundraising for Wildside Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Different Aktion Clubs have been active in the U.S. since the late 1980s and in Mid-Michigan for years.

"People that have always been looked at as needing help, really want to help other people too," says Mack.

The Hummingbirds will be officially inducted on Thursday, August 21 at 1 p.m. on the Garden Patio of Transitions South in Holt.
