KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) -- Police say a 12-year-old boy has stabbed a 9-year-old boy at a playground in western Michigan, sending the child to a hospital.
TV stations WOOD and WZZM report the stabbing happened Monday evening in Kentwood, near Grand Rapids.
Glen Stacey tells The Grand Rapids Press that he was approached by the older boy afterward and the child asked to use his phone. He says the boy reported the stabbing to 911. Stacey says he also called police and described the boy as "very calm."
Police say the 9-year-old was stabbed in the back and the reason for the stabbing wasn't immediately known. Police also didn't immediately release detail on the condition of the wounded child. The older boy was taken into custody for questioning by police.
