DETROIT (AP) -- An 11-year-old has died after a family's SUV was hit on a Detroit freeway by a semi-truck.
State police say Sunday that the 11-year-old was in a Lincoln Navigator with an adult and two other children -- ages one year and four months -- about 8:35 p.m. Saturday on westbound Interstate 96 when it was struck.
Police say the truck driver tried to avoid the SUV which was broken down in the far right lane, but hit the Navigator's left rear side.
The 11-year-old may not have been wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other children were in safety seats and were treated for their injuries. The adult in the SUV did not require hospitalization.
The truck driver was not injured.
