EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) -- A school employee has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a boy who was pulled from a pool.
Macomb County authorities on Tuesday charged Johnathan Sails. Prosecutor Eric Smith tells the Detroit Free Press that Sails was supposed to be monitoring a swim class at East Detroit High School in Eastpointe but wasn't certified as a swim teacher.
Smith says a vice principal jumped into the pool while Sails was changing clothes.
Ninth-grader KeAir Swift was resuscitated by an emergency crew on Nov. 8 but died after several days on life support.
A message seeking comment was left for Sails. Involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
