Casino Expands to Take Over Hotel

Owners of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel say they are buying a nationally branded hotel right next to the casino to diversify its business.
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians is paying $12 million for the Quality Inn & Suites west of the casino in Calhoun County's Emmett Township. The purchase includes a vacant five-acre parcel.
Tribal chairman Homer Mendoka says leaders will retain the hotel's 26 workers and operate for now as a Quality Inn.
The casino near Battle Creek opened in 2009. The tribe opened its 242-room, eight-story hotel on Dec. 12. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
