A car chase in Lansing Tuesday afternoon ended in a crash that shut down an area roadway.
The chase started around 2:45 pm at Willoughby and Aurelius, when a deputy attempted to pull over a car that was driving erratically. The car did not stop, and the deputy pursued the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle drove north on Aurelius at speeds in excess of 90 mph.
The driver of the car, a 35-year-old woman, ran a red light at Aurelius and Jolly, then crashed into a telephone pole, shearing it in half. The car then went airborne and rolled over. Police shut down Aurelius between Cavanaugh and Jolly, while emergency crews responded to the accident.
The driver was extricated, and transported to a local hospital, with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. She is a Delhi Township resident. Police don't believe drugs or alcohol are a factor. They do not know why she was driving erratically or why she refused to stop. Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
The road remains closed as of 4 p.m.
