HARPER WOODS, Mich. (AP) -- Suburban Detroit authorities say a police officer was wounded by a bullet fragment that ricocheted off the head of a pit bull.
WDIV-TV says that two Harper Woods police officers were trying to capture two vicious pit bulls about 8:30 a.m. Sunday when one dog charged one officer.
Police say the officer shot the pit bull in the head and the bullet shattered. Police say one bullet fragment bounced off the sidewalk and hit the second officer in the arm.
Police say the wounded officer received treatment at St. John Hospital and was released. They say the dogs were taken to a veterinarian.
