SMITHVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities say they found the body of a missing 9-year-old Ohio girl in a trash bin early Sunday morning and are investigating her death as a homicide.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says 9-year-old Reann Murphy was last seen Saturday evening playing outdoors at the mobile home park where she lived in Smithville, about 30 miles southwest of Akron.

Deputies, firefighters and area residents all converged on the scene to look for Reann.

Deputies found her body in a trash bin near her home at 1:30 a.m., about five hours after she was reported missing.

Sheriff Travis Hutchinson says Reann's "violent death" is troublesome and that the sheriff's office "will leave no stone unturned."

The department did not immediately respond to requests for further information, including how Reann was killed.
