LANSING - Police divers found the body of 22-year-old Brandon Mitchner in the Grand River Monday afternoon.
The Lansing-area man had been missing since approximately 2am Sunday. The body was discovered on the east side of the river, near the Elm Street Bridge. That is about a block down river from South Street, where police were told Mitchner went missing.
Police were told that Mitchner was intoxicated and walking with a friend to the end of South Street. Mitchner started running and his friend lost sight of where he went.
A search of the area near the river had been conducted overnight. The Capital Area Dive Team took up the search in the river Monday morning. The body was found at approximately 12:30p.m.
Police continue to investigate how Mitchner ended up in the river and the cause of death.
