DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he'll no longer rely on the head of the city's law department and will hire an outside attorney for legal advice.
Bing wants the city council to fire Krystal Crittendon after she sued the state of Michigan to stop a critical financial deal with Detroit. But the mayor doesn't have the necessary six votes. The council met Friday and took no action.
Bing told reporters he was denied a chance to explain his case to the council.
Crittendon has refused to resign and did not attend the meeting. She said she sued the state, against Bing's wishes, because she has independent authority under Detroit's recently revised charter or constitution. A judge quickly dismissed the case last week.
