Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is one of 300 mayors meeting with President Obama and members of his administration Thursday.
It's part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C.
Bernero and the other mayors have a chance to talk about issues important to their communities. For Bernero, it's jobs and infrastructure.
"Our roads are crumbling," Bernero said. "We have tried to get this across to our state as well, but that's a huge issue. There is a huge opportunity. Now is the time to do it, in my opinion, to invest in our future both to create jobs and deal with the crumbling roads that are a threat to our safety and our economic prospects as well."
Other big topics among the mayors include education, workforce development, health care and boosting trade.
Gov. Rick Snyder will be there Friday to accept an American for the Arts award.
