BWL Warns of Phone Scam

By  |

The Lansing Board of Water and Light has received several reports of con artists trying to get personal information over the phone.

People are getting calls from the number "517-515-5202", with the caller saying they're from the BWL. They threaten the customer with a loss of service if they don't make a utility payment over the phone.

The BWL says it will never ask for credit card information over the phone, or require customers to make a payment through a wire service like Western Union or Money Gram.

The scam has been reported to the Lansing Police Department. If you get a call like this, call the BWL's Customer Service at 517-702-6006 or your local police department.
