BWL Warns of Phone Scam

The Lansing Board of Water and Light has received several reports of con artists trying to get personal information over the phone.

People are getting calls from the number "517-515-5202", with the caller saying they're from the BWL. They threaten the customer with a loss of service if they don't make a utility payment over the phone.

The BWL says it will never ask for credit card information over the phone, or require customers to make a payment through a wire service like Western Union or Money Gram.

The scam has been reported to the Lansing Police Department. If you get a call like this, call the BWL's Customer Service at 517-702-6006 or your local police department. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
