BWL: Do-it-yourself Repairs Could Delay Restoration

By  |

The Lansing Board of Water and Light says it has 40 crews available for single service reconnections today, January 1st, with additional support crews assisting. The BWL says they received multiple reports of meters failing following customer do-it-yourself repairs. The BWL warns that such repairs could result in serious injuries when power lines are re-energized.

A statement from the BWL Wednesday morning says "Customers are urged to not repair their own masts and meter boxes, and it is highly recommended that customers hire a licensed electrical contractor to make these repairs. An incorrect repair may delay power restoration to these customers."

Two customer walk-in centers in Lansing remain open New Year's Day. The E. Lansing location at the Hannah Community Center is closed due to the holiday.

The customer walk-in centers will be staffed by BWL employees who will provide updates on customer electric service. The customer walk-in center hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice. The customer walk-in centers are located at: BWL Customer Service Center, 1232 Haco Drive, Lansing BWL REO Town Headquarters, 1201 S. Washington Ave., Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Rd, East Lansing.
