AG Taking Stand Against Lansing Casino

The letter Attorney General Bill Schuette sent to Washington is a big blow to plans for Lansing's proposed casino.

In it, he explains his failed efforts to advise the City and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe to stop the project, saying the casino would violate state and federal law by being more than 150 miles from the Tribe's reservation lands.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero released the following statement in response to this letter:

"The Attorney General is entitled to his opinion, but of course we respectfully disagree with him. Along with our partners in the Sault Tribe, we will continue to vigorously pursue our plans to establish a casino in Lansing, which will bring millions of dollars in new investment and thousands of new jobs to the region."
