LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- An audit has found some shortcomings by the state Human Services department in its protection of vulnerable adults.
Results of the Michigan Auditor General's report were released Wednesday. The audit says efforts evaluating Adult Protective Services activities and efforts in investigating cases of abuse were not effective.
The audit says Human Services officials had not fully implemented a process to evaluate how effective intervention services are and that Adult Protective Services supervisors did not consistently review closed cases. It also says county and district offices did not conduct prompt investigations and that Human Services did not look into all allegations identified in referrals.
Human Services Director Maura Corrigan says her office has "faced considerable challenges" and has "more to do."
She adds that protective services staff are getting more training.
