A service that helps struggling pet owners could use some help of its own.
The Ingham County Animal Shelter is running low on food for its Pet Food Pantry, due to a lot of requests for help. Both dog and cat food is needed--- and it doesn't matter if it's wet or dry food.
Shelter volunteer Jackie Gates says it is an important service. "We have a lot of low income families in Lansing currently that need assistance with dog or cat food. This allows them to keep their pets at home as opposed to having them surrendered to the shelter."
The shelter is always in need of paper towels, H-E laundry detergent and bleach. If you have pet food to donate, you can drop it off at the shelter in Mason at 600 Curtis Street or the Animal Outreach Center at the corner of Saginaw and Chicago Street in Lansing.
