Airport Wedding Faces Last Hurdle in Bay City Vote

BAT CITY, Mich. (AP) -- A couple say they hope their months-long effort to hold their wedding at Bay City's James Clements Airport clears a final hurdle Monday at a meeting of the City Commission.

Twenty-nine-year-old Karen Engle and 30-year-old Kevin Holcomb decided they wanted to hold the ceremony at the airport and discovered that getting the needed approvals was a long and challenging effort.

They found they needed Federal Aviation Administration permission, as well as a state and city OK.

Holcomb is a professional pilot and tells the "whole airport thing has been a roller coaster" for him.

They say they were able to negotiate a total site use cost of about $3,000, half what they initially thought. The City Commission votes on approving charging the couple $942 for the city's share.
