Police closed I-69 in both directions around the Lansing Road exit following a multi-car accident around 4:30 p.m. Monday. One person was killed and at least four others were taken to the hospital.
Police tell wilx.com a semi couldn't slow down in time for slowed traffic at the scene of another accident. A wrecker was trying to pull a car out of the ditch at the time. Traffic was beginning to back up and a semi travelling North drove almost full speed into slower cars, according to police.
The highway reopened Tuesday morning.
