About 37K Still Without Power After Winter Storm

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) -- More than 37,000 Consumers Energy customers still are without electricity following a winter storm that blasted parts of Michigan with snow and strong winds.

The Jackson-based utility says Saturday that more than 150,000 homes and businesses have suffered outages since early Thursday. Customers in some hard hit areas may be without electricity until Monday.

Alcona, Benzie and Manistee counties have the most outages with more than 5,000 each.

The storm dumped more than 1 1/2 feet of snow in Michigan. It was part of a system that began in the Rockies earlier in the week and has been blamed for deaths in at least five states.

A 71-year-old man was killed Friday in St. Clair County when a Jeep lost control on a snow-covered road and slammed into his pickup.
