The American Cancer Society kicked off its Making Strides fundraising campaign Tuesday with a breakfast at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.
The program included speeches by breast cancer survivors and representatives from the American Cancer Society. The goal is to get people motivated to raise money for breast cancer research and finish the fight against the disease that kills so many women.
"It gets us all together to spearhead the movement, to make sure that we are all coming together" said Kelly Dowdy, community event specialist at ACS. "We're never getting too tired to realize that this is a fight that is every day, every hour, every minute."
The fundraising campaign leads up to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at the State Capitol in downtown Lansing Oct. 18. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
There is a new one-mile walk this year, in addition to the regular 5K.
