Clean up crews arrive Thursday to begin picking up the mess left by the storm that blew through Mid-Michigan Wednesday night. The National Weather Service says it was not a tornado.

The powerful storm ripped the roof off of the social studies and math wing at the Maple Valley Junior Senior High School and scattered debris and building materials all the way through the end zone of the school's new football field. There's no dollar amount being put on the damage yet, but Maple Valley Schools Superintendent Kim Kramer says the insurance policy should cover it.

School was scheduled to begin Monday; instead the new school year will start Tuesday. The portion of the building where the roof was ripped off will be off limits, and administrators say it could take six months or more before the wing is rebuilt and opened again.
