Mother to Stand Trial for Leaving Children in Sweltering Car

A plea deal has fallen through for the Detroit woman charged with murder after her two young children were left alone in a sweltering car.

Tarajee Maynor faces trial October 11 on a first-degree murder charge. If convicted, she'd face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

But defense lawyer Elbert Hatchett says he wants his client sentenced for the lesser charge of manslaughter. Prosecutors aren't sure whether they'll continue negotiating.

Police say the 27-year-old Maynor left ten-month-old Acacia and three-year-old Adonnis in her black compact car while she spent more than three hours getting her hair done in June-2002. She's been jailed since then.
