Check your next pay stub carefully. The Federal government's new overtime pay regulations went into effect Monday. The Labor Department refers to it as "FairPay," but opponents says it's anything but.
The Michigan AFL-CIO says six million people in the United States will lose overtime because of President Bush's new rules. AFL-CIO President Mark Gaffney says it will include people working supervisory positions and below in a number of different fields, people who were making overtime last week.
Michigan Chamber of Commerce representative Richard Studley says he thinks, when the dust settles, people will find that many have benefited from the changes. While some will lose overtime, others will actually be making it now as regulations have been updated.
There's no definite number of people who will or won't be affected as employers can make decisions about overtime pay on a case by case basis.
