Sinkhole Forces Evacuation of Michigan Families

Six families in suburban Detroit have been forced to leave their homes due to a large sinkhole.

A sewer line break created the 150x45-foot crater. The line was 11 feet in diameter.

The sewer collapse shut down 15 Mile Road outside a Sterling Heights subdivision Sunday. It also knocked out power to about 200 DTE customers.

The sewer line serves about 200,000 customers in several communities. A temporary, aboveground bypass is expected to begin operation Monday.
