Once again downtown East Lansing is filled with folk music, dance, and art as the Great Lakes Folk Festival gets underway Friday night. Twenty-three acts and more than 70 performances are scheduled for the three day event.
Lora Helou, MSU Museum Communications Manager, says performers from as close as Kalamazoo and as far away as Dublin, Ireland have made their way to mid-Michigan. Five stages are set up to accommodate the music and dance acts including a new hip-hop addition this year.
Food vendors are also at the festival to serve their cultural specialties. Organizers estimate 80,000 people will attend. Admission is free.
