Dr. Stollak, professor of psychology at Michigan State University, says the best way to prevent this negative self-image is to give kids activities and goals to focus on. This will make them focus more on the inside and less on the outside.
Some local shoppers from the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing also offer some advice that helps them. They say to buy clothing that fits well, not too tight or too loose. And whenever you think a negative thought about your body, try turning it into something positive.
