Michigan Forest Fires Force Evacuation

By  |

Two forest fires have forced the evacuation of several homes in the northern Lower Peninsula.

The affected areas include homes near Bear Lake in Manistee County and a campsite in Grand Traverse County.

Police say the Manistee County fire apparently started after someone lost control of burning trash in a barrel. Investigators in Grand Traverse think fireworks started the fire there Thursday.

Firefighters had both fires under control Thursday night.

No injuries have been reported.
