Lansing's Sixth Homicide of 2004

The stabbing death of a Lansing man prompts another trip for Lansing's crime scene investigators. It's the third murder in the last 17 days. Despite the recent flurry of homicides, Lansing police say on the year the capital city is just below it yearly average.

Lt. Bruce Ferguson says Lansing on average expects 10 to 12 homicides per year. Right now that number is six. Ferguson says one is too many, but says the nature of the crime is so unpredictable that police have a difficult time fully interpreting the statistics.

"This could and hopefully will be the last homicide this year," said Ferguson.

Lansing Police are trying to combat the numbers though cracking down on substance abuse, combating domestic violence, and community policing.
