Nutritionist Katie McKinley of the Ingham County Health Department says especially because of the childhood obesity epidemic, kids need to be taught how to choose the right foods to eat.

She says most kids do not eat enough fruits and vegetables. She said the parents should try to involve their kids by going to the market and letting them pick out the good stuff. An easy way to add more veggies to your child's diet is to pack raw veggies in their lunches and add lettuce and tomatoes to their sandwiches.

McKinley says even if the food pyramid is changed it will still include the same basic principles that have been taught for years.
