When the Atlantis Development Group took possession of the Melrose Apartments in East Lansing there were PR problems to deal with.
The former management had an employee who was being charged with several counts of identity theft. The victims were residents at Melrose.
The new owners have now renamed the property 'Landings at Chandler Crossings.' They say the move is in part an original idea to make the property fit in with their other properties and part to distance the complex from the identity theft scandal.
They have also instituted some new procedures to prevent that sort of thing from taking place again. Residents are no longer able to pay rent with credit cards. Resident financial info is now locked and greater care is taken with that information.
