Reports from the Ingham County Medical Examiner's office show 35-year-old Tammie DuBay's died from strangulation, possibly with something like a rope or a cord. Wednesday night, Police responded to a report of a dead body found in a field near Cornell Road and Orlando Drive in Meridian Township.
Tammie DuBay was wheelchair-bound, and reported missing from her apartment early Wednesday morning. Her seven-year-old daughter Crystal called Tammie's mother, Margaret. Margaret tells News Ten, she rushed over as soon as possible, and called police shortly after.
Meridian Township Police say they are following up on leads, but are still looking for 48-year old Paul Gibbs for questioning. Family members say Gibbs and Tammie were dating, and had just recently broken up.
Gibbs is on parole from a Jackson County prison. He's already served 15 years for various offenses, including unlawful us of a weapon and attempted breaking and entering.
News accounts from Kentucky previously reported Gibbs may have been making cell phone calls there and Indiana, but Meridian Township Police would not confirm those calls to the media due to their pending investigation.
Police say Gibbs drives a red or orange Chevy S-10, license plate number YXF 196.
Instead of sending flowers, the DuBay familiy is asking for contributions to Crystal's education fund instead. A fund is set up at Lansing Area Federal Credit Union.
Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1, or the Meridian Township Police.
