"It's the parents responsibility to make sure what food is served and when it's served. It's the child's responsibility to decide how much and when to eat," said Gayle Coleman, MSU Extension Program.
Learning those roles is just part of what Gayle teaches Jodi and Cameron Spicer through the Nutrition Education Aimed at Toddlers (NEAT) project.
Coordinators conduct four classes at community sites, and then teach parents one-on-one in their homes about nutrition and how to make mealtime more enjoyable.
It's currently offered in 23 Michigan counties and will continue until 2004. Coordinators hope the NEAT project will be integrated into existing MSU extension programs.
