While Michigan State Police say they expect “a little overtime” associated with Vice President Dick Cheney’s visit to Lansing, other cities have been hit hard with security costs.
In past visits by the president, the city of Spokane, WA says the police overtime and associated costs of security were $17,000.
In Albuquerque, NM, a visit from the president meant $9,200 in security costs.
In Lincoln, NE, the city paid $32,000 for the Vice president’s protection, and Springfield, MO says a visit by the V.P. cost local taxpayers $5,000.
Lansing Police did not have estimates of what security for the vice president would cost.
The vice president is expected to begin speaking at the Lansing Center at about 1:20 p.m. Friday July 16.
