Michigan lawmakers will dive back into the state's budget problems with Tuesday committee hearings.

A House subcommittee is scheduled to hear testimony about the state's university financial aid programs. Cuts to some of the programs are possible as the state tries to deal with a projected $1.7 billion overall budget shortfall for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

House subcommittees also will discuss budgets for transportation and human services on Tuesday. Other panels will discuss legislation providing thousands of eligible state and school employees with incentives to retire.

A Senate subcommittee will discuss bills that could require public employees to pay more toward their health coverage plans and change the bidding process for some public school contracts.
