The health care debate hit the pavement in Jackson Thursday.

For the second time, hundreds of people gathered outside Congressman Mark Schauer's Office, each with differing opinions.

There are those who say the current health care system is broken and needs to be fixed. The plan on the table is the way to go.

"This will expand access and introduce competition into the system," Erin Knott of Michigan Citizen Action said. "No longer will insurance companies be able to exclude people due to pre-existing conditions."

"Heath care decisions should be made by people and doctors, not by insurance companies," Aletheia Henry, the state director of Organizing for America, said.

Others say no way. There are too many cons associated with current health care bill and it's too expensive.

"Who's going to pay for it?" Mary Lou Hoffman of Jackson asked? "This is just going to add to our deficit. I think there are other ways to cut costs."

"This is supposed to be the government for the people, not over the people," Sharon Houck of Munith said. "I'm against the government taking control of health care."

Some are hoping for a bipartisan compromise, State AARP Director Steve Gools, is one of them.

"Hopefully we will get an agreement as soon as possible between the House and Senate because health care reform remains important to our members," Gools said.

Schauer was not present Thursday, but every protester who was hopes members of Congress are listening.

Congressman Schauer voted for the House version of the health care bill last year. He doesn't agree with the Senate's version -- which is likely to be the one that gets the final up-or-down vote. His Spokesman tells us the Congressman believes the health care system is broken and needs to be fixed.
