OSHTEMO, Mich. (AP) -- A $1.2 million animal shelter dedicate to the "no-kill" philosophy has opened its doors in Kalamazoo County.
The SPCA of Southwest Michigan's new shelter is in Oshtemo, about five miles west-southwest of Kalamazoo. The group tells WWMT-TV more than half of the cost of the shelter came from private contributions.
SPCA of Southwest Michigan President Michael Kounelis says the new shelter has floor drains, ventilation, heating and other features needed to get animals "in good shape and get them into good homes."
