Police say Lansing resident Daniel Lynn Freshney went on a shooting spree through several cities and counties randomly shooting at least six people.
Freshney was arraigned in Clinton County Court on 19 charges including six charges of assault with intent to murder. That charge could carry a life sentence.
While at the arraignment Freshney said he and his six-year-old son needed to flee Lansing, "because of the invasion."
Prosecutors said Freshney claimed he was protecting residents from a terrorist attack.
While a pretrial is scheduled for July 15, prosecutors are hoping for Freshney to take a psychological exam to determine if he was insane at the time of the alleged crimes.
That could determine if a full trial is needed.
No one was seriously harmed during the shootings.
