Tony Sanfilippo, Dep. Dir. of the Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes and Fire Safety says the state is poised for greater fireworks accidents than years past.
The reason is that the Fourth of July falls on a Sunday and most have Monday off. Sanfilippo says the longer holiday weekend means more opportunity for accidents and injuries.
Last year, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth reported 36 incidents involving fireworks, 14 injuries, four deaths, and $8 million in property damage.
