This is the man investigators believe caused six separate accidents along northbound 127.
"He's a 29-year-old resident from Detroit."
His name is Phillip Darnell Alexander. Sunday morning he was released from the Detroit Police Department's Eastern District Jail on a recognizance bond. That's when investigators say calls began coming in of a reckless driver on westbound I-94 in Washtenaw County.
"The only thing we know is he wanted to get to Lansing and made a statement to us that these individuals just got in his way."
According to Lt. James Shaw of the Michigan State Police Jackson Post, Alexander was driving at speeds in excess of 100 mph, running cars off the road, and eventually ramming into six. The first accident happened in Jackson County at I-94 and 127 -- the last in Ingham County at Columbia Road and 127.
"The potential for fatality was incredible."
There were reports of only minor injuries, including that to Alexander. He was taken to Sparrow Hospital and released Monday morning.
"Troopers from Jackson Post took him into custody for felonius assault with a motor vehicle, and he was transferred and lodged in the Jackson County Jail pending charges."
Charges that could include felonius assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, possession of narcotics with the intent to deliver, and possibly a DUI.
Prosecutors for Jackson County and Ingham County have yet to file formal charges.
