Lansing schools are taking extra measures to ensure students are improving their performance in the classroom.

One way schools are improving performance is by not allowing freshmen to leave campus for lunch. Administrators feel this will cut down on dropouts, tardiness, and those wishing to skip class.

Freshmen also are taking a new class called study skills. It's aimed to increase performance by sharpening study habits.

Schools are still required to give quarterly assessment tests, which help identify students' strengths and weaknesses.

All students are also responsible for progress reports before the grading period ends.
