Detroit-area casino operators are betting one-point-nine billion dollars that expanded gambling floors and luxury hotels will help make the city a recreation destination.

The MotorCity, MGM Grand and Greektown casinos in Detroit and the Windsor Casino across the Detroit River in Ontario are undergoing major renovations.

The casinos already are one of Detroit's largest private employers.

Detroit's treasury takes in 200 million dollars a year from the city's three casinos, which had one-point-three billion dollars in revenue last year.

The Detroit casinos opened in 1999 and 2000, while Casino Windsor opened in 1994.
